Gas Grills

GAS GRILLS: No more than two (2) propane tanks per unit can be stored outside. At no time, should any propane tanks (small or large) be stored inside a unit. You must keep LP tanks upright, 10 feet from building openings and ignition sources such as doors, windows, dryer vents, air intake vents, pilot lights, and appliance compressors.

As of 1/1/2015, all grills (regardless of the type) are to be 10ft away from the building when in use.

  • On January 1, 2015, Massachusetts formally adopted the new Comprehensive Fire Safety Code 527 CMR 1.00, a model code adopted from NFPA 1 2012 Edition with Massachusetts amendments.  The code has some new language on the regulation and use of grills, not just LP gas grills but all cooking grills.  The changes in effect are listed below.
  • 10.11.6 Cooking Equipment.
  • 10.11.6.1 For other than single-family dwellings, no hibachi, grill, or other similar devices used for cooking, heating, or any other purpose shall be used or kindled on any balcony, under any overhanging portion, or within 10 ft. of any structure.
